  • Tinycards is a powerful, but fun, flash card tutor (review)

Flash cards don't have the most "fun" reputation, am I right? The utterance of the term brings about the specter of a coming test; of hours or repetition in your bedroom....memorizing, guessing, and re-guessing until either you have the facts implanted in your brain, or you fall asleep on your bed.

Good luck and all the very best in your Android launch! May Tinycards be as fabulous a success as Duolingo! Thank you so! By the way, how do I change my user name? The Save Changes button does not work. Also, needs fixing because it crashes. Thank you.

The colors and sounds help for some reason? I dont know why but it makes me pay attention more. Its great that if you have a duolingo it pre adds relevant cards. However Im using it for japanese and it would be really helpful if it added an audio element

Not worthy of the Duolingo name. For example, I'm learning German among other languages. When studying numbers, and asked to translate into the English, the format is completely random. Twenty-three, thirtyeight, Eighty two... omit a dash or a space and you're marked incorrect. Very frustrating.

I really love this app!! It's helped me so much when preparing for exams. However I find it kind of annoying that you can't make folders. For example I have a lot of decks of cards from each chapter in my science coarse but the are all over the place I wish there was a way I could organise them. Overall though I think it's really good app!

For some odd reason it has stopped working on my phone. One day to the next I suddenly couldn't do any of the lessons or the practice mode. Which is irritating because I actually want to learn this language. When it works though, it's great imo. I really like this app as a complementary course to Duolingo. It makes you write the words themselves, which Duolingo doesn't have. This is particularly great for languages that have a different alphabet. So 4 stars, but I wish it would work again.

Cute spaced repetition app with professional decks and browser availability so you can test yourself on PC. I just find it a pity when, on occasion, my fresh drafts are lost. It always saves drafts that have saved in the past though.

This blows all other flashcards apps out the water! This is the best tool I've ever used, my life currently depends on it lol. I hope it never gets shut down.

Very easy and fun to use. Useful for building basic vocab and maybe even more effective than the regular Duolingo app for intermediates. Bug everyone should know about: if you correct your answer and leave the cursor anywhere but at the end of the word before you hit enter, it'll register as wrong even if you're right.

Works only as a complimentary app for Duolingo, and even then is far too ham-fisted and repetitive. While Duo will try to give you different ways to pin down hard words, Tinycards will get to a point where it just tells you what to write and refuse to finish until you get it perfect; what makes this even more frustrating is that it tells you exactly what to write, yet as soon as you start typing the answer disappears, which is just frustrating if you are typing on a non-Latin keyboard because you've forgotten half of it by the time you figure out where each character is. Additionally, the app itself runs awfully. By the second or third lesson in a row, the app starts lagging horribly and requires quitting out of and restarting to fix, which is a pain because if you're halfway through a lesson you need to start over. All in all, give it a miss. Just use Duolingo or a competing app.

It was working fine until today. It would tell me a word and I'd type it out on the question. Whether it is correct or incorrect, it would say I didn't get the answer right. Every. Single. Time. Even if the word was right there when I put it in (For extra help) it would be wrong. Sometimes it would tell me what the answer actually was and it was the exact same thing I put in. If this was fixed I think I'd still use it. Otherwise at this point in time it's impossible to complete anything unless you keep pressing the 'I was right' button.

It's nice the app works in conjunction with DuoLingo, however, I am frustrated by the inability to combine decks. I'd like to practice a large number of unrelated cards at once in order to improve my vocab.
